School Open Morning: Herries Co-ed Prep School, Cookham Dean

It can never be too soon to start thinking about education. If the private route is an option for you head along to Herries Open Morning on Thursday 21st March where you will have a warm welcome from Head Teacher, Fiona Long and a guided tour by pupils.

Set in the home of Kenneth Grahame, author of The Wind in the Willows, Herries opened in 1937, set up by Beryl Goddard for Colonial service children. Herries is small but perfectly formed, with one class per year. Experienced staff are united by the philosophy that happy children achieve, personal effort is the key and scholarly traits are essential. Pupils perform way above expected academic levels with 3 internal scholars currently and candidates entering scholarships to independent schools. Herries prepare for entrance to top London, independent, state and grammar schools.

Sport takes place at Bisham Abbey, home of Olympian athletes. Pupils swim weekly from Nursery. Teams win netball, football and cross country fixtures. Over half learn a musical instrument and one quarter study LAMDA, with over half gaining distinctions recently. Extended day care is provided and enrichment lessons which encourage children to think critically and beyond the curriculum.

From Sherborne Prep, Fiona Long has succeeded an excellent headmistress and the school is thriving. Herries is known as the best small co-educational day Prep in Berkshire.
