Shining Star Productions

Identical triplet Amanda Cairns, from Cox Green in Maidenhead, has fulfilled her life-long dream at just 24, by opening a performing arts company called Shining Star Productions.
Here's her story...

I have been in the performing arts industry for just over 15 years, and I have never loved anything more than the feeling of performing. It has helped me to build up my confidence and believe in myself.

I run Shining Star Productions and we teach children aged 4-11 years in Berkshire how to sing, act and dance in weekly after-school classes. We also run holiday workshops and birthday parties.

After graduating from Bucks New University in 2013 with a BA HONS in Performing Arts, I decided to go into the big scary world alone and do something that I knew I enjoyed. I opened my first class at Cox Green Community Centre and it was a big success. It's hard work but worth every second of it!

My gran is my idol - she encouraged me to follow my dream when I was growing up. She taught me that life is too short to just sit back and not do
the things that we love. I guess she gave me that push to take the risk.

The most rewarding part of my job is working with children. We have children that come to classes purely to build on their confidence - some children do not want to perform anything in front of even one person when they first begin, and by the end of the year, they have the confidence to perform in front of 200 people for our annual summer show and it is very overwhelming.

I have seen my hard work pay off. I love the fact that I can have an idea in my head for a show and then watch it come to life.

The worst part of having my own business is that the pressure is all on me to get things right - there is nobody else to take the blame if things ever did

go wrong.

We have just been nominated in the What’s On 4 Juniors Award 2015 for ‘Best New Activity for Children’. You can vote for us here.

Classes are held at Cox Green Community Centre, Burnham Park Hall, Cippenham Primary School - and also at Holyport War Memorial Village Hall from January 2015. Shining Star Production also holds summer holiday workshops at Cox Green Community Centre during all the school holidays and offers birthday parties.
