Easy-peasy cake pops

Instead of serving toffee or chocolate apples to your kids this Halloween, why
not try making these easy-peasy cake pops?
They'll love them!

Take a chocolate or vanilla cake (home or shop-bought) and crumble it into a bowl. It should resemble breadcrumbs. Make up a bowl of buttercream (take a big dollop of butter, and keep adding icing sugar and milk to it until it forms a thick creamy consistency) and mix it into the cake crumbs a little at a time. Don’t add too much buttercream as if the cake is too moist, it won’t stick together and form into balls. Using your hands, form balls with the mixture (a bit like meatballs). Repeat until you’ve used it all up.

Place the balls on a plate and pop them in the fridge for an hour or two until set. Pour some candy melts into a bowl and heat over a saucepan of simmering water. Once melted, leave to cool for 5 minutes. Take the balls out of the fridge. Dip a lollipop stick into the candy, then halfway into the ball. Holding the stick, dip the ball into the candy and then twirl and tap the stick gently so the excess candy drips off. Decorate as you wish with sprinkles or sweets, and place the lollipop stick into a styrofoam block.

       BAROOSH BAR & RESTAURANT, MARLOW

Felicity Shirt, mum of two, from Cookham, went to Baroosh for pre-dinner drinks on a Saturday night.

'The place was buzzing and full of people of all ages, (it's for over-21s only). We ordered some fizz and sat outside on sofa-style seats around glass tables, with sunken flame-effect heaters. I haven't seen anything quite like that anywhere else. It was bustling outside just as much as it was in. Inside it really was a case of shouting to be heard, but the kind of thing I absolutely loved 10 years ago. The decor is funky, lots of little alcoves and brick walls, and fancy leather seating. Go in a group and it’s perfect, but not the kind of place
to go if you want a quiet chat. I don't think there's anything else like it around here - it really is buzzing and makes you feel young again. Or a bit old, depending on how you look at it!'

A few years                                   ago we went                                 to Cuba, and I've been a fan of a good mojito ever since. White rum, sugar, limes, sparkling water and mint... You can get a great one round here at Boulters Lock and Sanctum on the Green... you have to imagine the sandy beach though!

THE TEAPOT TEA SHOP, HIGH STREET, COOKHAM

I popped into The Teapot Tea Shop for the first

time this week. It's so quaint! We had a lovely
cup of coffee while we admired the many vintage
teapots dotted all around the place. They offer the

Teapigs tea range and a wide selection of coffees,

plus scrummy homemade cakes and biscuits! There's also the option of crumpets, toast, croissants and Danish pastries, plus lunches including paninis, ploughmans, sandwiches and baked potatoes.

It was fairly quiet in there, so although relaxing, we did feel we had to keep our voices down a little, but I'm sure a group of mums getting together for a natter could soon rectify that. I was also impressed with the pretty garden out the back - definitely worth a visit after feeding the ducks or a stroll by the river in the summer.

Will I be going back? Definitely! I have my eye on that enormous, gooey coffee cake that's on display on the counter...
