Berkshire Aestheics

Tell me about you...
I'm a 35-year-old doctor living in Maidenhead with my husband and two French bulldogs. We've been married for two years and hope to expand our family next year. My husband is Australian, and comes from Melbourne. I'm originally from South Staffordshire. Our French bulldogs keep us busy and can be quite a handful!

I've recently opened my first aesthetic clinic in Maidenhead, called Berkshire Aesthetics. I've worked in the NHS for 10 years, but I have decided I'm ready for a change and the autonomy that comes with running my own business.

Why did you choose to live in Maidenhead?

We moved from Greenwich to Maidenhead in 2015 due to my husband's work commitments. We chose Maidenhead as the area is being rejuvenated and we
were excited by the prospect of Crossrail. This is the first home we've bought together. We love living in Berkshire with its close proximity to London, but also enjoy being so close to so many areas of outstanding beauty – particularly helpful when you have dogs.

Tell me about your new business

Berkshire Aesthetics is an aesthetic skin clinic that is a doctor-led service providing both cosmetic and medical procedures for skin rejuvenation and body contouring with Coolscuplting. The aim of the business is to bring high-end Harley Street treatments to the home counties. We have plans to expand across several sites in Berkshire, maintaining high clinical standards, with a focus on doctor-led provision of treatments.

Have you always been interested in doing this?

I'm extremely passionate about Aesthetic Medicine. I have trained both in Plastic Surgery and General Practice in Central London. As a doctor, I am able to safely administer treatments with my background in clinical anatomy, and ability to diagnose and manage complications.

The aesthetics industry is now considered a field of medicine, akin to cosmetic surgery, and there is a strong movement towards introducing strict regulations.
I think this is extremely important as there are currently very few regulations or standards in place, which allows non-medically trained individuals to perform injectable procedures. I feel this is very dangerous. There have been far too many cases of botched procedures performed by those without the correct medical training. Patient safety should always come first.

I have trained extensively in advanced aesthetic procedures, along with 10 years of training in both Plastic Surgery and General Practice. I've also recently been recruited as a trainer with one of the UK's leading aesthetic training companies. Working within this field requires a huge amount of personal development and I have invested a great deal of time and money into my training. I am also currently completing a postgraduate certificate in Aesthethic Medicine, along with a postgraduate diploma in Dermatology at Cardiff university.

Who is your idol? Where do you get your inspiration and motivation?

There are several leading experts in the field that I aspire to, however, without a doubt, Mauricio de Maio is at the forefront of Aesthetic Medicine. He is a Brazilian plastic surgeon. His techniques are renowned worldwide. He is a world-class injector and I'm very excited to be attending his training conference next year.

What are your goals for the future?

I would love to open an Aesthetic clinic & Wellness retreat where patients can
come and stay for a wide range of treatments with a holistic approach. Services
such as this are usually only found abroad and it would be wonderful to bring
this to Berkshire.

Anything else we don't know about you and should?

I am learning to play tennis and I've recently joined the chambers of commerce, as well as Maidenhead rotary.
