I would love a Thermomix. It actually weighs, chops, cooks – and even washes itself up. This week, I caught up with Camilla Poulter, our local Independent Thermomix Advisor, who gave me a demonstration of the dream machine in action...

Hi Millie. Tell me about you...

I live in Maidenhead with my husband, two young daughters and Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs. We live an active lifestyle and our two big dogs get us out of the house and enjoying the beautiful countryside of our local area (we are big fans of Cliveden and Dinton Pastures). Like most families, we are concerned about eating a balanced diet. It needs to be healthy, but most importantly happiness comes from making it delicious! Sitting down to eat together at least once a day is also important to us as a family.

Is this why you have become a Thermomix Advisor? Tell me more.
I've just recently teach people about this wonderful German kitchen appliance, which allows you to make fast and easy, healthy and creative meals! It's an amazing machine that can mix, knead, chop, weigh, steam, grind, emulsify, blend, cook, whip, stir and do controlled heating.

When I saw how amazing the Thermomix was during a demonstration at my friends house' I was hooked and decided there and then that I wanted to become an advisor. I couldn't believe that Thermomix existed and so many people in the UK hadn't even heard of it! I've been thinking for a while about whether it was possible to find a job that I enjoy, but allows me to continue being a hands-on mum. I'm a primary school teacher and decided not to return to teaching after having my youngest daughter. Now I teach people how to cook
with a Thermomix!

I fit work around my girls, not vice versa, so that I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds – lots of family time, but also the opportunity to be myself and go out and meet new people, and teach them about something I'm passionate about.

I spent three days training to become a Thermomix advisor, but my learning hasn't stopped there. I enjoy teaching myself new recipes, finding out what other Thermomix owners are cooking and researching new ways of doing things, because I love to experiment and try new and interesting food. I'm amazed daily at what else the Thermomix can do!

Both of my girls have a cows' milk protein allergy so it's important for me to know exactly what is in their food. Thermomix has opened up a whole new world as I can now make absolutely anything (including dairy-free milk) from scratch and ensure it is free from dairy and not full of additives or sugar.

The thing about the Thermomix that impressed me the most was the guided cooking function – the touchscreen technology and recipe chips make the machine user-friendly,
so I'm able to cook delicious food without having to concentrate too hard on what I'm doing (when you have young children it's always hard to focus on a task). It gives me more time to do what I want as I leave the Thermomix to do the work!

What's your fave recipe?

I love food and love trying new recipes so that's really hard! At the moment I'm really enjoying cooking risotto. After having children and before I had the Thermomix it had become a dish that I rarely made – only when I had the time to concentrate on it – but now it's back on the midweek menu in many different flavours.

Why should every mum (or dad ) have a Thermomix?

It's the future of cooking – there aren't many people who don't rely on a washing machine or don't have a microwave in their kitchen. The Thermomix is another technologically advanced appliance that allows you to keep up with our fast-paced lives. I love cooking, but I don't have the time these days to do it justice. With the Thermomix I can quickly and easily cook from scratch, control the content of our meals and put food on the table that is restaurant worthy.

What are your aspirations for the future?

To inspire the people who I meet and teach about the Thermomix to be creative and to try recipes they'd never dreamed of before. Also to build my business whilst continuing to have the flexibility that allows me to be a hands-on mum.

You're looking for other mums to join your team. Why should they do this?

Being a Thermomix advisor gives you a flexible job where you can work at times that suit you and build your business as your children grow up.

Here's a great video clip showing all the functions of the Thermomix.
