The Media Hub makes a good impression
The Media Hub's recent breakfast workshops have given local media professionals and their businesses a boost.
At the workshops at the Bel & the Dragon in Cookham, my journalist colleague Sarah Parfitt and I, who set up the networking group three years ago, introduced UK Digital Marketing Engineer Tony Thornby, who gave an enlightening presentation on 'Being Found and Making a Good Impression'.
Tony has been a digital marketing consultant since 2005 and a member of the Media Hub from the outset. He owns Living Streams Consultancy UK Ltd and WSI Thames.
Tony said: 'Nowadays, what people find out about you online is more powerful than offline. Someone's online reaction to your content can reach thousands, while their offline reaction often reaches 10 if you're lucky. On the flip side, not being prominent online can be damaging to professional careers and business. In addition, if what people find online is negative, it can damage your reputation. It is therefore crucial that you proactively use social networking to build and maintain reputation and relationships.'
While the attendees treated themselves to a coffee at the pub, Tony's search engine optimisation workshop removed the mystery from managing a website and achieving high visibility. He also shared some tips on how to improve a website's Google ranking.
After a short coffee break, where the guests mingled and shared contacts, they eagerly returned to hear Tony share his tips on how to use LinkedIn for social networking and to improve online presence.
Tony was both informative and engaging, and managed to cover the core aspects on such a vast topic in one enjoyable morning. I personally learnt a lot from the sessions, and know our members picked up some great advice, too.
Media Hub member and attendee Sean Kelly from PR for Property said: 'What a great and informative session from Tony. I do love your Media Hub gatherings!'
