Theatre review: The Woman In Black

Want to be scared this October, the spookiest month of the year? Then this show is a must-see for you! The Woman in Black is touring the UK and I popped along to see it at Theatre Royal Windsor. You've most likely heard of Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story – or even seen the film starring Daniel Radcliffe – but the stage adaptation by Stephen Mallatratt is better still. It will grip you right from the start, as the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family is told. He engages a young actor to help him tell his story and exorcise his fear. As they reach further into his darkest memories, the borders between make-believe and reality begin to blur. The way they bring the horror to life is really clever. The spine-chilling sound effects, such as the trains, winds, eerie banging and blood-curdling screams from the show – and later the audience – make you cower in your seat, then have you jumping out of it the next. It's the best horror I've ever seen on stage.

Ticket prices £13–£31
