Olympic Gold Medallist and Lane4 Managing Director Adrian Moorhouse was the VIP guest and speaker at the Media Hub’s 2nd birthday celebrations held at Moor Hall in Cookham on 11th June.

After being introduced to the audience by hosts of the hub, Cookham-based journalists Sarah Parfitt and Sarah Rodi, former British swimmer Adrian explained how he translated his sporting success into the business world.

More than 70 attendees listened as Adrian - who struck gold at breaststroke in the Seoul 1988 Olympics – spoke about the Secret to Success. He shared his personal journey to sporting and business triumph and revealed what individuals and organisations need to consider in order to achieve their potential.

Adrian was such a great speaker - very inspiring. He shared some great anecdotes and revealed a lot about himself, while motivating everyone in the room to never give up on their dreams.

Sarah Parfitt of Parfitt Media says: "It was fascinating to hear how Adrian has drawn on his experience as an Olympic gold medallist to help businesses around the world create an environment where "champions are inevitable".

'I was particularly interested to learn that before the 1988 Olympics, Adrian was advised by a broadsheet to "do himself a favour" and "retire from swimming" - it just illustrates the fact that you have to follow your heart, dream big and not be disheartened by others. We would like to thank everyone who made Monday possible, especially our sponsors.'

The event was a fundraiser for two local schools - Holy Trinity Primary School in Cookham and Cookham Rise Primary School, and raised £800.

The meeting took place in the Berkshire suite at Moor Hall Conference Centre, the home of CIM in Cookham, who provided guests with a complimentary drink on arrival. Claire Pearce, General Manager, says: ‘Moor Hall was delighted to be given the opportunity to sponsor and host the Media Hub’s second birthday. It was great to see so many guests from the media attending the event at the home of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.’

The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Eileen Quick was among the audience and toasted the hub’s birthday. She said: ‘It was good to have the opportunity to meet you and your colleagues and to learn more about the media world in Cookham. I wish you every continuing success in the future.’

And after the presentation, Maidenhead-based singer/songwriter Tina Oldham performed Jazz music while the guests networked.

Home Secretary Theresa May, who was the guest speaker at a previous Media Hub gathering, sent the following birthday message: ‘Congratulations to the Media Hub for your second anniversary. The Media Hub is valuable in bringing together media professionals in the local area, providing support and networking opportunities and further strengthening the vibrant media sector that benefits our country so much. I am sure the Media Hub will continue this important work in the years ahead.’

We would like to thank Lane 4, Moor Hall, the Bel and the Dragon, the Stationery Depot, Mah Images, Caroline Field Photography, Purinto, Pizza Dreams, Costa Coffee, FitMe, massage therapist Dave Clarke and the Spicy Chef for all their support.
