NEWS FROM COOKHAM NURSERY
When I first visited Cookham Nursery School, I knew my daughter, Mya, had to go there. There’s just something special about the place – probably due to the incredible staff, the amazing facilities and the happy faces on all of the children
who attend. I also met many of my now-good friends there at Stay and Play on a Wednesday morning. Mya spent a wonderful year at the nursery before moving on to school, and now my youngest, Ayda, can’t wait to start in the next school year… But this week, headteacher Sarah Cottle invited me into her office to share some exciting news, and now I’m sharing it with you!
‘Cookham Nursery is launching an early drop session, which we feel will be beneficial to parents, especially for those who work or have to take older siblings to school,’ says Mrs Cottle. ‘These sessions will run from 8:15-8:45am Monday to Friday for £3 a day. Due to the wide range of childcare provision in the village and the increased competition, we have to be proactive and respond to the needs of the parents and their children. Which brings us on to our next bit of news… We have also decided that if we have spaces available, we may be able to offer children a space at Cookham Nursery School shortly after their third birthday.’
The clogs started whirring in my head. This means, if I want her to, my daughter, Ayda, who turns three in September, might be able to start shortly after her birthday, rather than having to wait until January next year… Interesting.
Cookham Nursery is maintained by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. ‘We are a school offering outstanding early care and education, and all our practitioners are qualified teachers and nursery nurses,’ Sarah adds. ‘The nursery school offers 80 places, on a part-time basis to local children, and children can now attend either five morning sessions or five afternoon sessions from their third birthday.’
Normal morning sessions run 8:45-11.45am Monday to Friday, afternoon sessions run 12:30-3:30pm Monday to Friday, and there’s the option of staying for lunch club (11:45am-12:30pm), plus doing additional sessions to the standard five a week.
To register your child for a place at Cookham Nursery, you need to get their name down during the academic year of your child's second birthday (1 September to 31 August). A registration form should be completed and returned to the school office with a birth certificate, and places are allocated on a date of application basis.
If you fancy having a look at the nursery, give the office a call, or pop along to Stay and Play with your little one on a Wednesday morning, 9.15-10.45am. Visit www.cookhamnursery.org
