MORE HOSTS NEEDED FOR TWINNING 25TH-27TH OCTOBER
From 25th to 27th October, Cookham will once again be welcoming visitors from St Benoit as part of the ongoing village twinning that started in 1995. St Benoit is located near to Poitiers, and is divided into three parts with a 12th century church and a river running through it – just like Cookham!
The French come to Cookham every other year, and Cookhamites visit St Benoit on the alternate year. Visits are planned around Autumn half-term so that families with children can take part.
This year, there is a full programme planned following the visitors’ late Saturday afternoon arrival. This includes a full Monday in Windsor and joint evening get-together meals at the Golf Club and Cricket Club on Sunday and Monday. The group will depart after breakfast on Tuesday.
Everyone stays in the home of their hosts, and attempts are made to place people of similar interests together. Many long-term friendships have been made as a result. A knowledge of French is not necessary as a lot of people in St Benoit speak English. Everyone involved in Cookham Twinning will tell you how much fun it is, and it’s available to anyone of any age from any walk of life.
There is still a need to find more Cookham hosts, so if you’re interested in hosting or joining in, you can find out more at an informal meeting on Sunday 21st September at 4.00pm at Costa Coffee in Lower Road. Otherwise, either email twinning@cookham.com or phone 01628 532279.
