NATIONAL BED MONTH - THE GREATEST 'BRAIN FOOD' IS SLEEP

Sleep is imperative to our wellbeing – without enough sleep our memory, emotions and health are compromised. And March is National Bed Month, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of quality sleep.

To us mums, a good night's sleep can all too often seem like a distant memory, but Best Bed Linen Ltd has some ‘top tips’ for achieving restorative sleep.

Our bodies experience a number of different sleep patterns in the night.

During the Deep Sleep phase, the brain consolidates memories; moving short-term memories into long-term memory storage in order to create space to make new memories the following day. REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep takes place in the second half of the night and is the most restful and calm part of the sleep process. Perhaps most significantly, it is the only time, day or night, that we do not experience any stress.

Sleep is fundamental to learning, growth, concentration, coping mechanisms and general wellbeing. Quality sleep is the greatest ‘brain food’ the body can consume in order to stimulate emotional and physical development.

Achieving a good night’s sleep can be affected by environment, stimulants and distractions. As experts in creating the perfect, comfortable sleep environment, Best Bed Linen’s Managing Director, Robert Lancaster-Gaye, offers these five helpful suggestions on how to create the perfect sleep setting:

1. Bed linen made from 100% cotton will ensure a much more satisfactory night’s sleep. For optimum comfort and care the ideal thread-count is 400 percale as it offers the ultimate in softness, whiteness, weight and durability.

2. Never use a second-hand mattress.

3. Choose a pillow that is both soft and supportive, such as our Savoy Luxury pillows, which have a special mix of feather and down, for the ultimate combination of softness and support for the head and neck.

4. As the mornings get lighter consider blackout curtains to prevent being woken prematurely.

5. Our body temperature drops during sleep so ensure your duvet is warm enough for the winter months to avoid waking in the night. Our 10.5 tog Goose Down filled Duvets are used by the world’s top five-star hotels because down is lighter than any feather fill – giving you the warmth without the weight.

Best Bed Linen’s mission is quite simply to help customers to sleep better and provide a five-star hotel sleep experience at affordable prices; offering the same bed linen as it supplies to hotels such as the Dorchester, the Goring and Claridges.
