FEELING BLUE? IN THE PINK?

The colours that you surround yourself with on a daily basis can affect your state of mind, so if you’re wondering how to get the best out of yourself, it’s worth knowing how colours change your mood.

Ever interested in light and colour, The Glow Company have put together a handy colour guide to help you to get the very best out of yourself, no matter what the situation. For instance, did you know that…

Red increases your heart rate and breathing, which is why this colour is often associated with passion and love. Red acts as a stimulant for your body, giving feelings of real intensity and that includes your appetite too!

Yellow is often thought of as the cheeriest of colours, but too much yellow can strain the eyes and produce feelings of frustration and anger; you’re more likely to lose your temper in a yellow room and babies tend to cry more in a yellow room. That said, yellow is also known to increase your metabolism, whilst red is known to increase your appetite, hence the large use of the colour combo in fast-food outlets.

The colour blue promotes calm and serenity and people are proven to be more productive in a blue room - this may be because the colour invokes relaxation and is thought to allow the creative juices to flow more easily. But be careful, too much exposure to blue, or certain blue tones can bring feelings of sadness. For all your dieters out there, eat from a blue plate! Blue is considered to be the least appetising colour and so you’re likely to eat much less.

Looking for a calm and happy place? Paint your walls pink! Warm, passionate but calming too, pink is often used in prisons and psychiatric facilities to help keep inmates and patients calm.

Colour and light has been used in therapies throughout history and is making a comeback in more homeopathic treatments to help manage conditions such as anxiety and depression.
