Bisham Abbey and Rivertime launch 'Boatability'

The Rivertime Boat Trust is joining forces with Bisham Abbey Sailing

and Navigation School to offer non-abled participants the opportunity to

participate in physical activity on the water.

The Rivertime Boat Trust currently works with disabled participants to offer them the opportunity for trips on the Thames, in its specially modified river cruiser, at Henley. The new activities will be run from the Sailing School at Bisham Abbey, National Sport Centre.

The 'Boatability' venture will offer bell boating as a first step before providing the opportunity to go dinghy sailing, rafting, powerboating and kayaking. These sessions will be offered to special needs schools and charities for the disabled. This approach will offer something different to these participants who previously did not have the opportunity, enabling the participants to work together, share experiences and progress into the world of water-based activities and water sports.

The important distinction of these sessions over other national centers is that when the sailing school is working with disabled groups they will be their only customer. This will enable close supervision and allow for the participants to relax in an environment that will help improve skills and abilities.
