Putting you in the picture
Even if you've never stepped inside ByGillian Gallery in Bourne End, you're sure to have passed it on your way into the village. I was invited to the gallery tonight with some of my mummy mates to have a private tour, and wondered why I'd never been before.
As we sipped wine and nibbled on canapes, we browsed the wide range of original and affordable art, including sculptures, ceramics, pottery and gifts. They also have beautiful bespoke mirrors made to order and offer specialist services in picture hanging and restoration. I've always been arty and even studied the subject at A level, but my painting talents stopped there. So it was a delight to meet award-winning watercolour artist Donna Juillet at the event and learn about her technique. Canadian-born Donna has been painting for 30 years and her works are like an explosion of colour on the paper.
Next it was time for a short workshop on the 'mysteries of framing', as the gallery offers bespoke quality framing services. I now know just how much time and skill goes into creating a beautiful frame - and how to choose the right one for my pictures!
In the pub afterwards, the girls and I agreed we'd had a lovely time - and learnt a thing ot two as well.
Bygillian will be hosting more free events in the coming months, so watch this space to get your name on the list. For more info, visit www.bygillian.com
