GO LOUISE!

Louise Lithgow is married to Andy and they have two children, Alice, four, and Henry, one. They moved to Cookham two years ago when they relocated from the Midlands for Andy's work. Louise has recently set up her own HR company, offering support to local businesses. Here's her story...

I love to help small and medium-sized businesses understand that employing people does not have to be difficult and employment law is not something to be feared. I also work with larger corporates who need my skills for specific projects. I have experience of managing larger change programmes that have resulted in organisation design changes, redundancies and TUPE.

I have been in HR since leaving school and have worked for some well-known brands, like Vodafone, Yellow Pages, NEC Birmingham, Roadchef, Lloyds Chemist and AstraZeneca.

I am a member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) and fully qualified. I have had roles with national coverage
and have been lucky enough to live all over the UK with my work – I even
lived in Scotland for four wonderful years.

I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave with Henry, so I decided fate was telling me to do my own thing. I now want to use the knowledge and experience I have gained to support local businesses. It will also give me the flexibility to work around my childcare requirements and have the work/life balance that I would like. Having a career is important to me as I identify with my work and enjoy it, and being able to manage it alongside having a family is ideal.

I have attended courses through Penna on starting your own business and
I am now ready to put that training to the test.
I am getting excited about the possibilities and opportunities. I have enjoyed designing my website and marketing literature.

In my spare time, I am rowing 8.5 miles down the Thames in London for
the AHOY charity on Saturday 4th October. I am doing this with a group of female friends who, after a few glasses of wine, decided that we should do something good. I joined Maidenhead Rowing Club and learnt how to row properly, but from that decided that rowing is not a long-term sport for me! The rowing challenge is going to be interesting – and I'm sure a lot of fun – and the main thing is we are raising money for a worthy cause.
